In 2011 the Gross Value Added of the construction industry in the UK was £89.5 billion, 6.7% of total GVA. There were 2.04 million workforce jobs in the UK construction industry in March 2012, 6.4% of all workforce jobs. The construction industry, particularly house building, faired badly during the recession. Output in the industry fell at a faster rate than total GDP. The industry rebounded more quickly than the rest of the economy the last three quarters of 2010 but contracted again during the third quarter of 2011 and the first quarter of 2012.
